The new building at the health facility was built under the UGIFT programme. Throughthe funding from UGIFT, we were upgraded from a health centre II status to health centre III. BeforeUGIFT intervention, we were only offering antenatal services, family planning and immunisation.
We had drug stock-outs and few mama kits. We now have a fully functional and well-equipped maternityward with antenatal, delivery and postnatal services.
Other services are immunisation, counselling, familyplanning and HIV testing. The health centre has beds for admission of patients and delivering mothers.Currently, we hardly refer the patients to other health facilities.
Before the upgrade, we had few mothers – about 50 – 90 per month, seeking antenatal services. Presently,we have about 200 mothers seeking antenatal services and 50 deliveries per monthI would like to thank the Ministry of Finance and World Bank for the UGIFT programme which hassupported our community.
The programme has also advanced health centres in the district – Buyobu andButufu health centres II have been upgraded to health centre III status.
The community is now engaging in development activities. Many have put up shops and also theinfrastructure is improving. We have established a good working relationship with UGIFT. We hope thatthe programme will continue supporting the community, especially with education and health.
